Discovery Elementary was thrilled to welcome author Dion Leonard and his rescue dog, Gobi, to our school this week! Students were beyond excited to meet the author of Finding Gobi, a heartwarming story about how Dion and Gobi found each other during a challenging marathon in the Gobi Desert.
Dion shared the inspiring true story of how he rescued Gobi, a stray dog who ran alongside him during the race, and their bond grew into a beautiful friendship. The students were captivated by Dion’s journey and loved hearing about the adventures of Gobi, who was also present for the visit, stealing the show with his lovable charm!
It was a truly special moment for the kids to meet both the author and the dog they had read about in class. Finding Gobi is a book about resilience, compassion, and the unexpected friendships that change our lives, and the students couldn’t have been more excited to meet the real-life stars of the story.
Thank you, Dion and Gobi, for sharing your incredible journey with us!

Mark your calendars for the 2025 Fun Run at Discovery Elementary on February 27th! This exciting event is just around the corner, and we can’t wait for students to hit the course, have fun with friends, and show off their running skills! Each grade will have their turn to run, and while we’re all about having a great time, remember—fun is the main goal!
Families are welcome to come cheer on their runners as spectators, making it a great opportunity to support the kids and join in the excitement. Be sure to check with your child’s teacher or room parent for the specific time their class will be running.
Not only is the Fun Run a day full of energy and fun, but it’s also one of the school’s biggest fundraisers of the year. Your participation helps support important programs and activities at Discovery Elementary.
We look forward to seeing you there—let’s make this year’s Fun Run the best one yet!

Last night, our school transformed into a vibrant hub of creativity and celebration at our annual Arts on the Green! The event was a resounding success, showcasing the incredible talents of our students and bringing our community together for a night to remember.
As guests strolled along the art walk, illuminated by charming market lights, they were treated to a feast for the senses. The walls were adorned with stunning displays of students’ writing and art, each piece a testament to their creativity and imagination.
The evening was filled with music as each grade took the stage to perform songs about weather, the overarching theme of the event. From sunny melodies to rhythmic songs about rain, our students’ performances captivated the audience and brought smiles to all faces.
But the excitement didn’t stop there! Guests had the opportunity to bid on fantastic items at the silent auction, with proceeds supporting our school’s programs. Meanwhile, food trucks served up delicious treats, satisfying appetites as attendees mingled and enjoyed the festivities.
For those looking for a bit of friendly competition and fun, each class had set up a game booth with various activities, providing endless entertainment for guests of all ages.
Arts on the Green was not just an event—it was a celebration of creativity, community, and the incredible talents of our students. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to making the evening a tremendous success.
Until next time, let’s continue to nurture and celebrate the arts in our school community!
Warm regards,
Discovery Elementary PTO

Miles of smiles… that’s what I saw last Friday night at Discovery’s Fall Festival. Happy kids, happy parents. Neighbors and friends enjoying an evening together. Carnival rides, games, music, food, a costume contest. Oh, and did you catch that sunset? Wow!
The night was pretty awesome and we hope you had a great time. If you couldn’t make it be sure to mark your calendars for next year. Thanks Discovery friends and family!
A special thank you to our crew of volunteers who worked tirelessly to put this event on. It takes a coordinated effort along with hundreds of hours to pull off these bigger events and we couldn’t do it without the support of so many individuals and local businesses. You all know who you are… much gratitude from Discovery Elementary PTO!
Discovery Elementary PTO presented a check for $10,000 to Principal Carrie Geldard that was used for technology purchases for kindergarten and first grade classes. It paid for 30 iPads and cases, along with 50 sets of headphones, as part of a continuation of investments into the digital classroom.
Thanks to all the Discovery families and local businesses who have contributed, and for allowing the Discovery Elementary PTO to make these types of investments into the future of our school’s children.
